Finding relief from benign prostatic hyperplasia
Medical Doctor and BPH, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia words in Medical network connection on the virtual screen on hospital background.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the abnormal enlargement of the prostate gland. This is fairly common among older adult men.

When a person has BPH, their urinary function is severely affected by the condition. They may experience a range of symptoms, including:

  • Nocturia (frequent urination at night)
  • Prolonged urination
  • Difficulty starting urination
  • A persistent urge to urinate
  • Recurring urinary tract infections
  • Bladder stones
  • Blood in the urine

If the condition does not respond to medicinal therapy, a surgery may be needed to reduce the size of the prostate and alleviate the condition. One of the best options is transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

An instrument combining surgical and visual tools called a resectoscope is inserted into the urethra through the penis up into the bladder. With the resectoscope, surgeons then trim away excess prostate tissue that impedes the proper flow of urine.

This procedure is great for men with moderate to severe urinary problems caused by enlarged prostates.
